clustering

n. 1. The tendency of people to group together items in memory on the basis of subjective dimensions of similarity regardless of the order in which they are presented. 2. The tendency of cases to be close to some other cases and far from other cases in a multidimensional vector space. 3. In industrial psychology, an interview process of noting key ideas and then grouping them together as the interview progresses. The clusters can then be used to create taxonomies, menus, or task lists.
