Cloze procedure
n. The Cloze procedure is an examination or experimentation technique that requires students or participants to fill in blanks with a missing word (e.g., Bobby and Suzy take the home from school together every day). This procedure is often used to assess the student’s or participant’s comprehension ability, vocabulary ability, or general knowledge. Performance on Cloze tasks is highly correlated with performance on standardized measures of comprehension ability. In addition to testing, this task is used in experimental research to determine properties of a sentence or text such as its predictability, readability, and coherence.
