cerebral palsy

n. (CP) A lack of coordination, including spasticity, awkward movements, paralysis, difficulty in walking, and speech problems, resulting from damage to the brain during gestation or the first 5 years of life. Spastic CP results from damage to the motor cortex, corticospinal tract, or pyramidal tract. Dyskinetic CP results from damage to the basal ganglia, ataxic CP from damage to the cerebellum, and mixed CP from damage to multiple sites.
