blindness, cortical

n. Loss of vision, associated with anatomically and structurally intact eyes and intact anterior visual pathways. It is due to the bilateral lack of cortical functioning of the primary visual cortex in the occipital lobes. Pupil response to light is preserved. Cortical blindness can be associated with visual hallucinations and preserved ability to perceive moving objects (Riddoch phenomenon). Sometimes, patients deny the blindness (Anton syndrome).
