back translation

n. A back translation is a translation, back into the original, of a text that had been previously translated into a language other than the original by translators independently of those who translated the original. Comparison of the back translation with the original version is informative regarding the degree of equivalence between texts in two languages. Back translation is sometimes used as a technique in discourse analysis, particularly in research on cross-cultural differences in discourse. It is also used as a technique to validate or improve upon an existing translation.
