n. The tendency to rebel against group pressure. In conformity studies a small percentage of subjects express erroneous opinions which are in the opposite direction from a group's expressed opinions. There is an assumption that the motivation of nonconformity is rebellion against group norms rather than the expression of genuine or preexisting personal points of view.
