anomic suicide

n. Suicide that results from a sense of alienation from the social world and feelings of hopelessness usually due to rapid changes in the social world. It can be either acute or chronic and domestic (related to rapid changes in the life of an individual) or economic (related to rapid changes in society as a whole). So one person might feel alienated and hopeless because of the death of a spouse or similar personal change, while another might feel alienated and hopeless because of a societal event such as an unnecessary war or a stock market crash.
