The fictitious name assigned to Bertha Pappenheim, a patient of Sigmund Freud and Josef Breuer, whose case was used as an illustration in early formulations of psychoanalysis and published in a volume entitled Studies in Hysteria. Pappenheim, who was a social worker in her adult years, complained that Freud and Breuer had misrepresented her case.
