alexithymia

n. A disruption in both emotional and cognitive processes such that the person has trouble recognizing his or her own emotions and has a reduced emotional and fantasy life so that he or she seems concerned only with details of everyday life without a sense of direction or purpose. Alexithymia is often found in persons with long-standing drug addictions and those with psychosomatic disorders.
