adaptive testing

n. A testing process in which each item, after an initial set of items, is selected on the basis of the correctness of a response to the previous item. So a person is given an item on a test and if he/she answers correctly, he/ she is then given a more difficult item but is given an easier item if he/she has answered incorrectly.
